Welcome

I am delighted to have this opportunity to introduce Haberdashers’ Adams to you and thank you for expressing an interest in our school.

I firmly believe that any school should be the sum of the parts. This is especially true of Adams. On the pages of this site you will hopefully get a glimpse of what we have to offer and appreciate our values and what we stand for. Our philosophy is simple and hasn’t changed much for many years: we want to develop confident, articulate young men and women who are interesting, balanced and who care for each other.

We think we offer an outstanding learning experience but we are so much more than just our examination results. Although we do pride ourselves on our academic success, the outcome of a school should never be measured only in statistical summaries, but rather it is the journey as well as the destination of our pupils that is key to our success. This means we focus on many aspects of the development of our young people – we recognise the importance of developing a strong sense of belonging and believe in educating the whole person and teaching traditional values. By encouraging pupils to take part in the wide variety of activities available, we can nurture their leadership qualities, promote high moral values and encourage excellent communication skills. We want our pupils to be simultaneously competitive, co-operative and caring, as this will ultimately prepare them for life.

At Adams we have high standards and we expect the same of our pupils; we want them to be ambitious for their own development, and apply themselves to their studies with intellectual curiosity and academic endeavour. The celebration of success is important to us and we take every opportunity to commend our pupils for their achievements, whether they be at house, school, regional or national level. Our pupils are an inspiration to others around them.

Education is a lifelong journey, and we have the privilege of being able to prepare young men and women for the next part of that journey. If you share our values and aims and are interested in learning more about Adams then I invite you to pay us a visit, meet some of our inspirational pupils and spend some time with us in school.

Charities Week 2024

Charities Week 2024 provided much enjoyment whilst recognizing the very serious needs of those less fortunate than us and, in the process, raising money for five very worthy causes.

The week was organised by the Charities Committee of seven pupils in Upper Sixth. The charities they chose to support this year were Cancer Research UK, British Red Cross, Hillbrae Kennels, Compton Hospice and Midlands Air Ambulance.

Wolves Walkers

The week began very early for eighteen boys in Upper Sixth who undertook the Wolves Walk Challenge. They set off from Wolverhampton at 1am to walk the 20 miles to Adams that they would usually do on a school bus. The canal path was very muddy underfoot but it didn’t rain, no one fell into the canal and there were no navigational errors this year! The pupils made it to school at 8.45am, just in time for registration, and then managed to struggle through the day. As of 18th March, they had raised over £6,000 for Cancer Research UK. You can still donate here: Habs Adams Wolves Walk (justgiving.com)

Theme Days

Each day of the week had a fun mufti theme: Monday was Pyjama Day, which made rolling out of bed a little easier to manage! Tuesday was Character Day which required a little more effort but pupils and staff rose to the occasion. On odd socks Wednesday, it was all about footwear. Culture Day, on Thursday, celebrated the diverse student community we enjoy at Adams. Friday finished on a high with pupils and staff Dressed to Impress.

On Tuesday a bake sale during Break time made a roaring trade and sold out of goods. On Thursday, the Redefined Society held a sale of cultural treats from Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

9O donated their house entrepreneurship profits to Charities Week. Other initiatives included matching baby photos to the member of Adams’ staff and a challenging cryptic crossword created by Mr Sedman-Smith. Sa’adu lead the house water bottle competition from early in the week. There was a late charge by Darwin. In the end, Sa’adu won on weight and Darwin on quantity due to a £20 note in their bottle! Big School Library collected pre-loved books to donate to Barnardo’s.

A huge thank you to our Charities Committee, assisted by Mrs Cherrington, Mrs McGladdery and Mrs Whittingham, who worked tirelessly to pull the week together. The grand total raised during Charities Week 2024 will be announced next term.
