Welcome

I am delighted to have this opportunity to introduce Haberdashers’ Adams to you and thank you for expressing an interest in our school.

I firmly believe that any school should be the sum of the parts. This is especially true of Adams. On the pages of this site you will hopefully get a glimpse of what we have to offer and appreciate our values and what we stand for. Our philosophy is simple and hasn’t changed much for many years: we want to develop confident, articulate young men and women who are interesting, balanced and who care for each other.

We think we offer an outstanding learning experience but we are so much more than just our examination results. Although we do pride ourselves on our academic success, the outcome of a school should never be measured only in statistical summaries, but rather it is the journey as well as the destination of our pupils that is key to our success. This means we focus on many aspects of the development of our young people – we recognise the importance of developing a strong sense of belonging and believe in educating the whole person and teaching traditional values. By encouraging pupils to take part in the wide variety of activities available, we can nurture their leadership qualities, promote high moral values and encourage excellent communication skills. We want our pupils to be simultaneously competitive, co-operative and caring, as this will ultimately prepare them for life.

At Adams we have high standards and we expect the same of our pupils; we want them to be ambitious for their own development, and apply themselves to their studies with intellectual curiosity and academic endeavour. The celebration of success is important to us and we take every opportunity to commend our pupils for their achievements, whether they be at house, school, regional or national level. Our pupils are an inspiration to others around them.

Education is a lifelong journey, and we have the privilege of being able to prepare young men and women for the next part of that journey. If you share our values and aims and are interested in learning more about Adams then I invite you to pay us a visit, meet some of our inspirational pupils and spend some time with us in school.

Ways to Support

When William Adams set up our school in 1656, he did so as a philanthropic act to enable bright children from modest backgrounds to access a standard of education that could compare with independent schools.

Nowadays, as a state school, we still rely on the generosity of our school community to maintain and improve our buildings, equipment and provide a wider variety of opportunities and experiences for students that reflect our high standards. You can support us in a variety of ways.

Support Our Lottery

Play our School Lottery

Our school lottery raises money for the little extras that make the school function better. State school budgets have become tighter each year so money from the lottery has gone towards buying equipment such as chess clocks for our burgeoning chess team, orienteering equipment to encourage getting outdoors and extra furniture to increase capacity in the library.

The lottery, which is administered by “Your School Lottery” gives our community of parents and Old Novaportans a way of supporting the school financially in an affordable, regular way combined with the chance to win one of two weekly prizes.

Join the PTA

Our PTA was re-established in September 2022 after Covid caused a long gap in activities and a change of team members. They are recruiting new members to help organise and deliver fund-raising activities and events.

Donate

If you would like to donate to any other causes with in the school, such as providing extra support for Pupil Premium children, helping us to preserve our older buildings and heritage, or helping us with equipment or team sponsorship then our development department would love to speak to you.

You can choose to donate with a one-off payment or regular giving of small amounts.

The school also runs a private school fund which all new parents are asked to join to enable to provide our students with a much wider variety of extra-curricular activities than would normally be available to a state-funded school.

Our online donation facility will temporarily become unavailable from 31st December until our new portal is set up in the new year. For all donation enquiries, please contact our Development Manager, Rebecca Roberts.

Give your time, skills or experience

We recognise that our school community has a diverse range of skills. Perhaps you can provide expert advice and services to the school. Perhaps you can help with career mentoring? If so, please get in touch.

Our parents and alumni support our careers service by acting as mentors
