Welcome

I am delighted to have this opportunity to introduce Haberdashers’ Adams to you and thank you for expressing an interest in our school.

I firmly believe that any school should be the sum of the parts. This is especially true of Adams. On the pages of this site you will hopefully get a glimpse of what we have to offer and appreciate our values and what we stand for. Our philosophy is simple and hasn’t changed much for many years: we want to develop confident, articulate young men and women who are interesting, balanced and who care for each other.

We think we offer an outstanding learning experience but we are so much more than just our examination results. Although we do pride ourselves on our academic success, the outcome of a school should never be measured only in statistical summaries, but rather it is the journey as well as the destination of our pupils that is key to our success. This means we focus on many aspects of the development of our young people – we recognise the importance of developing a strong sense of belonging and believe in educating the whole person and teaching traditional values. By encouraging pupils to take part in the wide variety of activities available, we can nurture their leadership qualities, promote high moral values and encourage excellent communication skills. We want our pupils to be simultaneously competitive, co-operative and caring, as this will ultimately prepare them for life.

At Adams we have high standards and we expect the same of our pupils; we want them to be ambitious for their own development, and apply themselves to their studies with intellectual curiosity and academic endeavour. The celebration of success is important to us and we take every opportunity to commend our pupils for their achievements, whether they be at house, school, regional or national level. Our pupils are an inspiration to others around them.

Education is a lifelong journey, and we have the privilege of being able to prepare young men and women for the next part of that journey. If you share our values and aims and are interested in learning more about Adams then I invite you to pay us a visit, meet some of our inspirational pupils and spend some time with us in school.

At Haberdashers’ Adams, we believe that a strong partnership between school and home is key to creating a supportive environment for our students with the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF, 2025) finding in their research that “parental engagement has a positive impact on average of 4 months’ additional progress.” There are many ways in which you as a parent can get involved in your school, described below. One of the most impactful ways to get involved is by joining our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

What does the PTA do?

Our PTA has been running for many years and has provided support and refreshments at school events such as House Cross Country, The Dixon Cup and House Athletics. They have also run their own events – Summer Balls, Christmas parties and Markets, teas and coffees at rugby matches and a second-hand school uniform shop.

As a result of past fundraising efforts, the PTA (formerly known as Adams Grammar School Society or AGSS) has been able to purchase a number of items for the school such as a set of Taiko drums and science equipment. They also contributed significant amounts towards the cost of building our sixth form and music centre and our Lynn James Sports Pavilion.

More recently, they have funded conference chairs for the Drama department and a barista-standard coffee machine at Longford, in the hope that this will generate an ongoing source of income for the school and make better use of the Lynn James Pavilion.

How Can You Get Involved?

Our PTA are keen to expand their membership and are seeking support in a variety of ways, depending on your availability:

  • Sharing your professional expertise (e.g. marketing, finance, event planning, IT)
  • Offering sponsorship or donations to support school projects and events, including raffle prizes
  • Providing services such as printing, catering, or transport at a reduced rate
  • Providing access to equipment or resources
  • Facilitating work experience placements for our students at your company

Even volunteering at one event each year would be a huge help. If you would like to come to be a part of the PTA, register your interest on the below form which will enable us to pass your details on to the PTA. You can also keep an eye on MCAS for notifications of any upcoming meetings.
