Welcome

I am delighted to have this opportunity to introduce Haberdashers’ Adams to you and thank you for expressing an interest in our school.

I firmly believe that any school should be the sum of the parts. This is especially true of Adams. On the pages of this site you will hopefully get a glimpse of what we have to offer and appreciate our values and what we stand for. Our philosophy is simple and hasn’t changed much for many years: we want to develop confident, articulate young men and women who are interesting, balanced and who care for each other.

We think we offer an outstanding learning experience but we are so much more than just our examination results. Although we do pride ourselves on our academic success, the outcome of a school should never be measured only in statistical summaries, but rather it is the journey as well as the destination of our pupils that is key to our success. This means we focus on many aspects of the development of our young people – we recognise the importance of developing a strong sense of belonging and believe in educating the whole person and teaching traditional values. By encouraging pupils to take part in the wide variety of activities available, we can nurture their leadership qualities, promote high moral values and encourage excellent communication skills. We want our pupils to be simultaneously competitive, co-operative and caring, as this will ultimately prepare them for life.

At Adams we have high standards and we expect the same of our pupils; we want them to be ambitious for their own development, and apply themselves to their studies with intellectual curiosity and academic endeavour. The celebration of success is important to us and we take every opportunity to commend our pupils for their achievements, whether they be at house, school, regional or national level. Our pupils are an inspiration to others around them.

Education is a lifelong journey, and we have the privilege of being able to prepare young men and women for the next part of that journey. If you share our values and aims and are interested in learning more about Adams then I invite you to pay us a visit, meet some of our inspirational pupils and spend some time with us in school.

Old Novaportan Alumni

We are very fortunate to have such a supportive Old Novaportan alumni community and are very grateful to the ONs who give up their time to support our current students with their future aspirations. This term we have welcomed back ONs for our Progression Event, ON Forum and Careers Speed Networking.

In turn we always enjoy hosting ON reunions and this term were delighted to welcome back the Classes of 1974 and 2004 for their 50th and 20th reunions and to facilitate a reunion of our Hong Kong Alumni.

Class of 1974

Longford Hall was purchased in 1967 and the class of 1974 were the first set of boarders to enjoy it as a boarding house. It was therefore fitting that the thirteen ONs met at the Pavilion and then enjoyed a tour of Longford followed by lunch in the dining room. After lunch, the group made their way to Big School Library where Mr Hickey provided an update on Adams. There then ensued a surprise presentation – a flag featuring the original crest of the family of William Adams that had mysteriously vanished from the school on the day the class of 1974 left! It had been found in remarkably good condition in an attic in an undisclosed location! The flag will be framed and put on display in reception.

On behalf of the Class of 1974, Nigel Williams said: “We are very proud to be associated with a school that has achieved so much and constantly looks to increase standards whilst optimising inclusion.”

Class of 1974 50th Anniversary

Class of 2004

Thirty-two ONs attended this reunion event. The afternoon began with coffee and school cookies, which were fondly remembered, before an update from Mr Hickey in Big School Library. We were delighted to welcome back Mr Richardson and his wife to oversee proceedings as well as past teachers Peter Chapman, Tom Bate, Rodney Jones and Kev Francis. Mr Skeate and Mr Mulhern also joined.

Jenny Cann, who instigated the reunion, said of her time at Adams: “Now, as an adult and educator, I see more than ever how precious and special our experiences were within the safety bubble of Adams. The adventures and misadventures were all part of the process that made us the "adults" gathered here today, and I am so grateful for that time and place in our lives.”

Class of 2004 20th Anniversary

Hong Kong Reunion

Nine ONs from the classes of 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2012 met for dinner in Hong Kong and enjoyed reminiscing over their boarding escapades.
