A new society at Haberdashers' Adams is launched as part of the extra curricular programme - the Redefine Society.
What a monumental year this has been. For the first time in Adams' history, the school has witnessed the rise of ‘Redefine’ - a society established and led by African-Caribbean pupils under the guidance of Mrs Halcro and Mr Obeng-Asare. The aim of the society is to change pupil attitudes to diversity within school, create an environment for the members to socialise and promote pride in each student’s ethnic background.
The group meets every other week on Thursdays, led by the Sixth Form body - with Chairman Zak Bailey leading the society’s meetings. With it only being the first year, the progress that Redefine has made is indescribable. This year, the society has come together to deliver assemblies to the whole school on various topics, they have given the school a taste of different cultures - quite literally, by raising money and selling different African-Caribbean dishes during charities week - and showing the school their beautiful attire during school culture day.
Redefine symbolises both positive change as well as community spirit. So, for next year, after planting the seeds of possibility within the school, we can only hope to see the society flourish and grow as History Has Been Made. And will continue to do so for the next academic year and foreseeable future.
