Elwin Adhami led an outstanding cast in an exciting new one-hour adaptation of Shakespeare’s 'Macbeth' - a gripping tale of power and manipulation in a quest for the Scottish throne.
Over three performances, Elwin Adhami captured the brooding passion of the great warrior and infamous despot. Chloe Massam-Simon’s subtle but chilling interpretation of his manipulative ‘fiend-like queen’ was also compelling as she propelled her husband towards his tragic descent into madness. These two performers were accompanied by a commendable cast of fifteen students from across the school, with each actor embodying their character with conviction.
The performance showcased the talent and dedication of our Drama Club. Despite the brevity of the production, the plot was coherent and the essence and intensity of 'Macbeth' preserved. The production retained all of the most important lines from the original text and was an excellent introduction to 'Macbet'h and a reminder of the enduring relevance of Shakespeare’s themes of ambition and power.
The set design was minimalistic yet effective allowing the audience to focus on the actors and unfolding drama. The use of Taiko drums, by Hayden Nam and Bosco Chan, invoked the treacherous landscape of Scotland and the technical crew’s use of lighting further enhanced the atmosphere.
An enormous thank you to Mr Jopling and Miss Slade for bringing to life this engaging and accessible interpretation of 'Macbeth' and ‘bravo’ to all of the actors, musicians and technical crew.
