Welcome

I am delighted to have this opportunity to introduce Haberdashers’ Adams to you and thank you for expressing an interest in our school.

I firmly believe that any school should be the sum of the parts. This is especially true of Adams. On the pages of this site you will hopefully get a glimpse of what we have to offer and appreciate our values and what we stand for. Our philosophy is simple and hasn’t changed much for many years: we want to develop confident, articulate young men and women who are interesting, balanced and who care for each other.

We think we offer an outstanding learning experience but we are so much more than just our examination results. Although we do pride ourselves on our academic success, the outcome of a school should never be measured only in statistical summaries, but rather it is the journey as well as the destination of our pupils that is key to our success. This means we focus on many aspects of the development of our young people – we recognise the importance of developing a strong sense of belonging and believe in educating the whole person and teaching traditional values. By encouraging pupils to take part in the wide variety of activities available, we can nurture their leadership qualities, promote high moral values and encourage excellent communication skills. We want our pupils to be simultaneously competitive, co-operative and caring, as this will ultimately prepare them for life.

At Adams we have high standards and we expect the same of our pupils; we want them to be ambitious for their own development, and apply themselves to their studies with intellectual curiosity and academic endeavour. The celebration of success is important to us and we take every opportunity to commend our pupils for their achievements, whether they be at house, school, regional or national level. Our pupils are an inspiration to others around them.

Education is a lifelong journey, and we have the privilege of being able to prepare young men and women for the next part of that journey. If you share our values and aims and are interested in learning more about Adams then I invite you to pay us a visit, meet some of our inspirational pupils and spend some time with us in school.

Sports Round Up March 2023

This sports round up covers a lot of sport packed into 5 weeks - both internal, as the five houses vied for valuable points towards the Chaloner Cup, and external.

External & Inter-School Sport

Hockey: The U16 and U18 Hockey teams competed in the Midlands Regional Finals at Rugby School in the first week after half term. The U18 squad, all members of the Sixth form and gave an excellent account of themselves in a tough group. All the games were very close and ultimately it was a case of the teams that took their chances that secured victory. The U16 teama combination of Year 10 and 11 boys, played some excellent hockey and benefited from the experience which they will take with them as they go into U18 Hockey next season.

All our Hockey teams qualified for the County Finals which took place at Wrekin College. The relatively inexperienced U14 team beat Oswestry and then came up against some tough opposition from Shrewsbury and Wrekin. The U16 and U18 teams were beset by absences so, despite fighting hard, they had an uphill battle and, unfortunately, were unable to convert their chances.

The final event of the season, the U16 7-a-side Shropshire Schools Tournament, proved to be an excellent finish with the team winning the tournament following six straight wins against their opposition. It was even more impressive as the boys had spent the afternoon competing in the Senior House Hockey event before playing in the tournament.

Rugby: The U13 and U16 Rugby Teams completed a fantastic season by being crowned County Champions whilst the U12 team just missed out after a fantastic effort in the final.

Netball: Both First and Second teams travelled to Haberdashers’ Girls in Elstree to compete in the Haberdashers’ Netball Tournament.

Cross Country: Adams fielded two teams in the Attingham Relays organised by Shrewsbury School early in March. While the senior team couldn’t keep up with the strong competition from the independent schools’ teams, the junior squad performed well, to finish 4th out of 7 teams.

Football: The undoubted highlight of the term has been the cup run of the 1st XI. A narrow victory over Madeley Academy in the quarter finals, after extra time, was followed up with a resolute victory over Shrewsbury School in the semi-finals. This means that the 1st XI are now into the Shropshire Under 18 County Cup Final for the second time in as many years. The cup final is due to be played at the end of April at Lilleshall National Sports Centre, with the opponents yet to be confirmed. The 2nd XI is also still in contention for the league title in their division.
