Welcome

I am delighted to have this opportunity to introduce Haberdashers’ Adams to you and thank you for expressing an interest in our school.

I firmly believe that any school should be the sum of the parts. This is especially true of Adams. On the pages of this site you will hopefully get a glimpse of what we have to offer and appreciate our values and what we stand for. Our philosophy is simple and hasn’t changed much for many years: we want to develop confident, articulate young men and women who are interesting, balanced and who care for each other.

We think we offer an outstanding learning experience but we are so much more than just our examination results. Although we do pride ourselves on our academic success, the outcome of a school should never be measured only in statistical summaries, but rather it is the journey as well as the destination of our pupils that is key to our success. This means we focus on many aspects of the development of our young people – we recognise the importance of developing a strong sense of belonging and believe in educating the whole person and teaching traditional values. By encouraging pupils to take part in the wide variety of activities available, we can nurture their leadership qualities, promote high moral values and encourage excellent communication skills. We want our pupils to be simultaneously competitive, co-operative and caring, as this will ultimately prepare them for life.

At Adams we have high standards and we expect the same of our pupils; we want them to be ambitious for their own development, and apply themselves to their studies with intellectual curiosity and academic endeavour. The celebration of success is important to us and we take every opportunity to commend our pupils for their achievements, whether they be at house, school, regional or national level. Our pupils are an inspiration to others around them.

Education is a lifelong journey, and we have the privilege of being able to prepare young men and women for the next part of that journey. If you share our values and aims and are interested in learning more about Adams then I invite you to pay us a visit, meet some of our inspirational pupils and spend some time with us in school.

New Teaching Staff 2024

We were pleased to welcome a number of new teaching staff at the beginning of the academic year 2024-25. We caught up with them to discover a little more about them.

Mrs Clegg, Teacher of Religious Studies (maternity cover)

Originally from Nottingham, Mrs Clegg spent ten years teaching in Bridport, Dorset, before moving to Shropshire in 2009 to teach in Shrewsbury.

An RS teacher for 23 years and head of department for 15 years, Mrs Clegg has, more recently, focussed on her passion for the outdoors, completing her Mountain Leader award and supporting students on the expedition element of the Duke of Edinburgh award. Over the course of her career, she has enjoyed leading many school trips to Belgium, Holland, Germany and Honduras, plus multiple ski trips.

In her spare time, you will find Mrs Clegg climbing mountains or indulging in her secret passion for Vinted!

Miss Hulland, Teacher of Sport and Games

An Old Novaportan, Miss Hulland know Adams very well! Joining for Sixth Form in 2018, she threw herself into life at Adams playing netball for the First VII and was appointed Netball Captain in Upper Sixth. She loved her time in the Sixth Form and also enjoyed competing in House Cross Country, Dixon Cup and House Athletics. However, whilst at school she was in Talbot, Miss Hulland is now in Webb!

On leaving Adams, Miss Hulland studied Sports and Exercise Science at Lancaster University and then went on to train to be a PE teacher at Loughborough University. She played netball for Lancaster University and is currently playing in a regional netball league.

Miss Judd, Teacher of Biology

Joining us from Idsall School, Miss Judd has been teaching biology for a number of years. Before entering the teaching profession, she worked in research. Her last project involved investigating how to preserve seaweed as part of a larger project into its potential as a biofuel.

Miss Judd previously lived in Canada for a number of years and enjoyed a month's conservation volunteer work in South Africa. She has two dogs and enjoys nature photography and cake decorating in her spare time.

She brings with her an axolotl, called Bunsen!

Miss Black, Teacher of Mathematics

Miss Black joins us from the Royal Grammar School Worcester where she taught maths and supported the Duke of Edinburgh Award. She studied Mathematics at the University of Chester and began her teaching career with the Teach First programme during the pandemic - a very interesting time to join the profession!

In her spare time Miss Black enjoys participating in performing arts. She attends weekly dance lessons and also enjoys teaching dance. It won’t be long before Miss Black is involved in Dixon Cup and our annual musical productions…

Dr Al-Murani, Teacher of Mathematics

Teaching is a job Dr Al-Murani loves and he’s been fortunate to work from home for the past 4 years as a consultant and associate lecturer. However, he’s very excited to get back to the coal face. He has studied and taught in a variety of settings and countries ranging from the US (New York) to Oxford, Sweden, Malaysia, and Australia.

Away from teaching, Dr Al-Murani enjoys sharing time with family and friends, learning new things, staying fit, and playing board games.

Mr Massey, Music Department Co-Ordinator

A familiar face already around the Music Department, Mr Massey has worked at Adams since 2019 as the woodwind tutor. Mr Massey has a degree in Music from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, and plays bassoon, clarinet, oboe and saxophone. He will continue to teach woodwind and saxophone, alongside taking over the administration of the department.

We wish all of our new staff all the very best on their Adams journey.
