in Admissions

The vast majority of pupils join us in Year 7. Below you will find details of the entrance procedure as well as links to apply for the entrance test when relevant.

Year 7 Entry 2019

There are 105 day places and up to 15 boarding places for entry in to Year 7 in September 2019. Admission is based on the results of the School’s Entrance Test and our over-subscription criteria. We administer the Test as part of a Consortium of grammar schools in Shropshire, Walsall & Wolverhampton. The test will be held on Monday 17th September 2018.

Please note that the consortium of grammar schools in Shropshire, Walsall and Wolverhampton has agreed the Entrance Test will not be re-arranged for candidates involved in pre-planned activities, such as school trips or residentials, on the Test date.

The deadline for on-time applications to sit the Entrance Test of the Consortium of Schools in Shropshire, Walsall and Wolverhampton (September 2019 entry) was 4.00pm on Friday 6th July 2018.  Those still wishing to apply for entry into Year 7 in September 2019 should contact the Registrar on (01952) 953810 or by e-mail.

Before starting the application you will need to find the primary school's DfE number. This can be found on the DfE's 'Get information about schools' website and the primary school name needs entering into the 'Name or reference number' field.  The link to the site is https://get-information-schools.service.gov.uk/

Process

To be considered for a place, parents must complete the following:

1. Parents must have completed the online registration form to take the Entrance Test before 4pm on the 6th July 2018. Please note all applications after this time are considered late.

2. Boys must sit the Entrance Test on the 17th September 2018

3. Parents must complete a separate application to their home Local Authority listing Haberdashers' Adams as a preference.

The Test

The Test comprises two papers of about an hour each, which assess verbal reasoning/English, non-verbal reasoning, and mathematics. Admission to the School is based on performance in the test. Please ensure you have read the Determined Admissions Policy 2019/20. If you are applying for your son to be considered under A or B of the over-subscription criteria you must submit the required documents prior to the date of the entrance test.

Boys sitting the test at Haberdashers' Adams will only receive a results letter from Adams. If you ticked the box to indicate you also have an interest in a place at Queen Mary’s Grammar School when completing the online form, you will not receive a separate letter from Queen Mary’s Grammar School- your son’s result will count for both schools. You must then include both schools on your preference form / common application form when you apply to the Local Authority.

Applying to your Local Authority

Applications to the Local Authority need to be completed in accordance with your home Local Authority’s application process. This may be online or by completing their Preference/Common Application Form. We expect the deadline for parent applications to their home Local Authority to be on or around 31st October 2018. Places are allocated by parents’ home Local Authority, on or around 1st March 2019. Parents must check their own Local Authority’s deadlines.

Timetable

The timetable for admissions in September 2019 is as follows:

Open Days - 22nd and 23rd March 2018 and 4th and 5th February 2019

• Online applications open – April 2018 - 6th July 2018

• Entrance Test day – Monday 17th September 2018

• Test results posted to parents by second class post on the afternoon of Friday 12th October 2018

• Parents must complete their Local Authority application – 31st October 2018 (please check)

Admissions Arrangements for entry in September 2018

In October 2017 parents received a letter advising them of the outcome of the entrance test.

Please note this letter is not an offer of a place; it does indicate whether or not your son is of grammar school ability to enable you to make an informed decision on your Local Authority Preference Form, which parents must submit direct to their Local Authority (normally the end of October 2017 for people in the Telford and Wrekin area).

Formal offers will be received in March 2018 from your Local Authority not from the school.

Parents considering an appeal should note our Appeals Timetable for 2018 admissions.
