Develop an interest in and a love for music
Our dedicated music centre provides a state of the art environment for pupils to develop an interest and a love for music. There are a wide variety of choirs, groups and ensembles for pupils of all ages to get involved in with rehearsals at lunchtime and after school. Regular evening and lunchtime concerts mean pupils who wish to perform have plenty of opportunities to do so.
The annual House Music competition is a friendly but competitive event in which large numbers of pupils participate, representing their House with fierce loyalty.
To find out more about the Music department you can download a copy of ‘Gracenotes’ at the bottom of this page and follow our Twitter feed.
Each year our talented pupils put on one or two school productions which are always of an incredibly high standard. In recent years they have tackled Les Misérables, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cabaret, Smike and Guys and Dolls. The most recent production was Jekyll and Hyde - please see below for a full album of images.
The next production will be Anything Goes in July 2019.
The school’s Taiko drummers are always popular whenever they perform. Their very first public performance was to mark the opening of the Hamilton Hall by His Royal Highness the Duke of Wessex. Since then they have gone on to perform their stirring routine at a number of open events.
The music department is pleased to be able to extend this opportunity to staff, parents and the wider community with a series of lessons during which you’ll learn:
- Basic Taiko Stance, Posture, Form & Technique
- Traditional Taiko Base Rhythm & Patterns
- Taiko Rhythm Exercises
- Japanese & Dojo Etiquette
- A short musical Taiko Piece by the end of the sessions
Ensembles and Groups
We encourage as many pupils as possible to take part in our wide range of ensembles and groups. The following groups rehearse weekly either at lunchtime or after-school:
- Swing Band
- Flute Choir
- Clarinet Choir
- Saxophone Group
- Senior Strings
- Junior Strings
- Junior Choir
- Junior Brass
- Guitar Group
- Chamber Choir
- CCF Marching Band
- Music Colours
Music colours are awarded annually to pupils who have shown an ongoing commitment to the musical life of the school. They are presented during an evening event in the Hamilton Hall where friends and family are invited to watch the pupils perform.
House Music is always a hard fought contest and the 2019 competition was no exception. The winners were Darwin House. Please take a look through the album below to see some of the highlights of the event.
