Go beyond your comfort zone.
The Adams experience is all about pupils being able to both fulfil and exceed their potential. We believe in educating the whole person and while academic results are important, we want a pupil’s time at school to be one in which they develop as a person by embracing the many opportunities we offer, both inside and outside the classroom, and trying as many new experiences as possible.
In addition to the huge variety of opportunities available through the House system, we also offer a broad range of extra-curricular activities and while pupils may arrive with a firm idea about the activities they like doing, we will always encourage them to try something new so that they push themselves beyond their comfort zone.
Prep Club
For day pupils in Years 7 to 9, we offer a Prep Club from 3.45pm to 7.30pm at Longford Hall.
Prep Club is ideal if you work long hours and struggle to make the normal end of school day pick up. You can be confident that by the time you pick up your child he will have been fed well, completed his prep and enjoyed time relaxing with his friends, meaning time at home is more relaxed without the pressures often associated with school nights.
Learning Outside
the Classroom
Regular trips are organised throughout the school year to support classroom learning, from field trips around the UK and theatre trips to university visits, lectures and national competitions. There are also opportunities to travel overseas through our French and German trips and our sport tours, which have included a rugby tour to Hong Kong and New Zealand and a hockey and netball tour to South Africa. Our annual ski trip in Europe is always very popular as is our music tour of Australia, with students having the opportunity to perform with a school in Australia and showcase their musical talent in a number of venues.
Duke of Edinburgh
The Duke of Edinburgh Award encourages independence in young people aged 14-24 offering them the chance to develop skills for life and work and to fulfil their potential. At Adams we encourage students to develop their teamwork skills whilst also promoting the independence and resilience to complete each section successfully. Individuals work towards their Bronze Award in Year 10 and, once accredited, progress to do the Silver Award during Year 11.
CCF
Extra-curricular activities at Adams include a thriving Combined Cadet Force, which all pupils have the opportunity to join in Year 8 upwards. The two sections, Army and RAF, are both overseen by experienced military personnel and our musicians have the opportunity to join the CCF marching band.
