Extra-curricular activities at Adams’ include a thriving Combined Cadet Force, which all pupils have the opportunity to join in Year 8 upwards. The two sections, Army and RAF, are both overseen by experienced military personnel and our musicians have the opportunity to join the CCF marching band.
The CCF enables our students’ natural spirit of adventure to be exploited to the full, testing their physical and mental stamina in many outward bound challenges. They take part in numerous activities from survival weekends to summer camps and flying too if they are in the RAF section, while also entering various regional and national competitions. Our Army section has won the Midlands Military Skills Competition and the West Midlands Brigade Orienteering Championships on several occasions.
In recent years a number of Adams' cadets have been selected for a prestigious six week training course in Canada during their summer holidays after a rigorous selection process. Each cadet has to compete against over 2,000 applicants to become one of just 12 selected for the course, which includes rock climbing, glacier trekking, mountain biking, canoeing and horse riding.
Every other year our cadets are reviewed by a high ranking member of the armed forces as part of our Biennial Inspection. In 2018 we were particularly fortunate to welcome back Old Novaportan Group Alun Roberts of the Joint Forces Command to be our Reviewing Officer.
After inspecting both the Army and Royal Air Force recruits on the parade ground he then saw them in action in the grounds of Longford Hall while they took part in field craft demonstrations.
