Prize Giving marked the end of the 2018 academic year. Pupils, parents, staff, governors and invited guests enjoyed hearing from military veteran Jordan Beecher. Blesma member Jordan Beecher was a Corporal in the Parachute Regiment before being injured in Afghanistan in 2012, stepping on an IED which resulted in him losing his left leg below the knee.
Although Jordan had to leave the Parachute Regiment, he has since won four Invictus Games gold medals, trained with the GB rowing team and competed in the Henley Royal Regatta. Last year Jordan, along with a friend, rowed an impressive 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean in the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic challenge, taking them from La Gomera to Antigua in just 37 days - three days faster than the former world record.
Jordan's message to the pupils was to have a goal and to never give up. If like him your dream gets shattered, pick yourself up and re-focus on a new goal in life.
We would like to thank Jordan for his inspiring words and wish him all the best for the future.
Jordan received a cheque for £726.84 from Darwin pupils who completed a Rowathon in support of his Atlantic crossing.
