Providing an outstanding learning experience is at the heart of everything we do and we are proud of the excellent results our pupils achieve. We believe the success of a school cannot be measured by results alone however if you do wish to see the full range of our results you can do so on the Government’s school performance website.
Headmaster Gary Hickey commenting on the 2018 exam results.
"Once again there have been some truly incredible results and I am delighted to report an 8% increase in the number of A*-B grades this year. Overall 68% of our 151 A-level pupils have achieved A*-B passes with many securing three or more A*/A grades. Special congratulations to Jonty Watt and Adarsh Menon who have both achieved four straight A*grades and successfully secured their places at Oxford and Cambridge. Congratulations also to Daniel Cubbon who has also achieved four A-levels with three A* and an A to study physics at Oxford.
I am delighted to report that all nine of our Oxbridge applicants with offers for 2018 entry have achieved the grades they needed and ten students wishing to study medicine/dentistry have also been successful in securing the necessary grades.
In addition to their A-levels, pupils have also taken the Extended Project Qualification this year, again achieving some exceptional marks with 72 pupils achieving A*-B grades.
With the extensive changes to GCSEs this year we have been unable to accurately compare this year’s results with previous years and were expecting the number of top grades to fall slightly. The new exams are harder with much more rigorous content designed to bring the UK system in-line with the best education systems globally. They also have a greater focus on end of course exams as opposed to controlled assessment and modular exams.
With this in mind we are delighted that the number of 9-7 grades is virtually identical to the top grades achieved 2017 (A*-A) grades at 67.5%. Once again there have been some truly incredible results with six pupils achieving an amazing 10 GCSEs at grades 8 and 9. We have seen particularly impressive results in our science departments with the Chemistry department celebrating 62 grade 9 results meaning over half of the year group achieved this incredibly high standard."
