Teaching Staff

Part-time Teacher of English (approx. 0.35)

Starting January 2018 – Fixed-term for two terms

The school is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and innovative teacher of English to complement the existing skills base within a department comprising of both full-time and part-time members of staff.

All pupils are taught and examined in AQA English language and English Literature at GCSE and English Literature is taught at A-level.  Teaching is delivered in the main classroom block and there is a studio area which is used as a resource for teaching drama in English.

The successful candidate should feel confident delivering both Key Stage 3 and 4, therefore, good classroom management skills are essential; as is the desire and capability to work with, and develop the potential of, more able students.  With recent specification changes at GCSE the need has come to redesign course materials and their associated schemes; we are a forward-thinking team, always open to new ideas. The new appointee will therefore be actively encouraged to share a fresh perspective and contribute to the writing/modification of schemes and assessment materials.

The extra-curricular side to school life is particularly important, and the English Department organises a school drama and dance event; House poetry competition; a creative writing group; a senior debating club; a range of theatre trips and a school magazine.   We would expect the successful candidate to take an active part in some of these extra-curricular activities.
