Congratulations to Lower Sixth pupil Sam Neeld who has been selected to swim for Shropshire in the National Inter-county gala in Sheffield at the beginning of October.
Over the summer holiday Sam achieved personal bests in four of his five national events and made it through to the finals in three of the events. In Sam’s own words:
“As we approached the first week of August the question was ‘will 16 hours a week of swimming plus numerous gym sessions be enough after 7 weeks of reduced training for GCSEs?’
“After two good races on day one, in the 400IM and 100 breaststroke with one new personal best, the nerves settled and day two gave me my first final at national level and another personal best in the 200 breaststroke. My last day of competition saw two new personal bests in the 400 Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke and, after a swim-off for a place in the 50m breaststroke final, two more finals. Finishing with higher placings in all five events than I started the competition, I was very happy that all the work had paid off. To add to a very good summer of competition I was really pleased to have been selected to swim for Shropshire in the National Inter county gala in October.”
A great season with great GCSE results too. Well done Sam.
